A practical comparison
Q7 L5 or Q7 M5+: choose the dock routine first
The Q7 L5 and Q7 M5+ share the Q7 family’s basic idea: LiDAR-mapped vacuuming, a flat water-fed cloth mop and three app water-flow levels. Their operating packages are not identical. The Q7 L5 reviewed here includes a standard charging dock; you empty its robot dustbin by hand. Q7 M5+ includes a RockDock Plus that automatically empties dust into a bag, while leaving mop-cloth washing and water-tank care to you. Choose the dock routine first, then compare the manufacturer suction figures and the threshold documentation.
One is a charger; one empties dust
Roborock identifies the Q7 L5’s robot as RRA0TAC and its standard charging dock as SPCDZ03RR. It does not transfer dust out of the robot. After a vacuum run, open the robot’s combined dustbin-and-water-tank unit and empty the bin yourself. This is a useful package if you prefer a small station, don’t mind routine emptying or want to avoid maintaining a dust bag. It is less attractive in a home where pet hair or heavy daily use means the bin needs frequent attention.
The Q7 M5+ uses a different robot code and comes with AED08LRR, a dust-only auto-empty dock. Roborock lists a 2.7 L bag and up to seven weeks between bag changes in its own testing; actual interval depends on dust, hair, rooms and schedule. It reduces how often you empty the robot, but it does not wash or dry the Q7 mop cloth. Don’t choose the M5+ expecting a fully hands-off mop station. The manual still assigns the wet maintenance to you.
Three-level cloth mopping remains a manual job
Both machines use a flat removable cloth and a robot-mounted water tank, not vibrating or spinning pads. The app’s three water-flow levels let you choose more or less water, but they do not transform this into an automatic mop-washing routine. Before a first mop cycle, the shared Q7 Series manual calls for at least three vacuum passes. Fill the tank with tap water, dampen and wring the cloth, and attach it flat; after mopping, empty unused water and wash and air-dry the cloth. If you want the robot to handle pad washing, compare a model with a dock that explicitly has that function.
Do not overread the performance numbers
Roborock lists 8,000 Pa for the Q7 L5 and 10,000 Pa for the Q7 M5+. Those are manufacturer maximum-suction specifications, not independent pickup measurements or a guarantee that one will clean a specific carpet better. The M5+ has the higher published figure, but room layout, floor material, brush upkeep and operating settings also matter. The two listed robot bodies are both about 12.8 inches across and 3.9 inches tall, so neither is the low-profile choice in this pair. Measure the tightest furniture gap and include rug edges and sagging upholstery.
There is a documentation difference that matters for bumpy routes: Roborock lists a maximum two-centimeter climb claim for the Q7 M5+, while the Q7 L5’s exact product page and shared manual do not publish an L5 threshold figure. If a minimum claim is essential, the L5 cannot be credited with one from the evidence here. Even a listed maximum is not a route guarantee; test the actual transition and leave margin.
Floor and network limits apply to both
The Q7 Series manual says not to use either model on high-pile carpet and warns that dark-carpet performance can be reduced. Carpet boost is a setting, not permission to ignore that restriction. Both use LiDAR navigation and app control, and the manual supports only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Neither listing identifies camera-based recognition of cords, small toys or pet accidents, so clear the route before an unattended run. The M5+’s auto-empty dock changes dust handling, not hazard recognition.
Which package fits your home?
Pick Q7 L5 when you want the standard charging-only dock and accept manual dustbin emptying; the smaller base is also easier to place. Pick Q7 M5+ when automatic dust disposal and its published two-centimeter threshold claim matter more than a larger station and bag upkeep. For either one, budget time for the same cloth-and-tank routine, confirm that 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is available and keep the robot off high-pile carpet. If the real priority is a vibrating cloth, compare Q10 S5. If automatic pad lifting matters for your carpet transitions, compare Q10 X5. For hands-free mop washing, step outside this simple Q7 cloth-and-dust-dock category rather than assuming a “+” adds mop care.
