A practical comparison
Dreame D20 Plus or D20 Pro Plus?
The D20 Plus and D20 Pro Plus share the same basic household pattern: mapped vacuuming, a detachable flat mop, a 5 L dust bag in an auto-empty base and a 350 ml water tank carried on the robot. Both list 13,000 Pa maximum suction, the HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush, a 500 ml robot dust box, a 3.8-inch body and a maximum 20 mm threshold claim. Dreame's figures are specifications and in-house claims, not side-by-side independent cleaning results. The practical choice is therefore less about a supposed pickup winner and more about the Pro model's extra sensing and side-brush reach.
Choose D20 Plus for the simpler confirmed package
D20 Plus uses LDS mapping and a physical bumper, according to Dreame's D20 series comparison and its product manual. Its direct product specification explicitly says the side brush does not extend. That can be enough in a home where loose objects are usually cleared before a run and corners do not demand a moving brush. You still get the named DuoBrush, the dust-empty station, a flat pad and the same published tank and bag capacities as Pro Plus.
One D20 Plus detail deserves caution: Dreame's product page has a stray sentence calling its side brush extendable, even though the adjacent specifications mark that feature absent. The D20 series table and its later edge-cleaning description also identify a standard side brush. The explicit feature row plus the comparison support treating the brush as non-extending. Dreame's pages conflict about the exact carpet-sensing method too: the product image is labeled ultrasonic, while the comparison table names brush-current sensing and the prose says ultrasonic. Do not buy it on the assumption that either sensor method is certain.
Step up to Pro Plus for the added hardware
The D20 Pro Plus manual identifies a 3D line-laser sensor and side-brush extension assembly; the U.S. product page lists single-laser 3D structured-light avoidance and an extending brush. These are the material upgrades if rooms often have small objects in the route or if an extending side brush is a must. They are manufacturer-described design features, not proof that the robot will recognize every item or clean every corner. Clear cables, toys and fragile objects, and make no assumption about obstacle size beyond what the maker documents.
Pro Plus does not add an automatic mop-washing station. The included base is for dust auto-emptying; the flat mop is still removed, washed and dried by the owner. Dreame's comparison describes ultrasonic carpet sensing on the Pro Plus, but the manual simply identifies a carpet sensor and gives no high-pile carpet rating. Neither model should pass an essential high-pile support requirement on these materials.
Use the home and care routine to decide
Both exact manuals support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only and say that 5 GHz is not supported. Both list the U.S. station at 120 V, 60 Hz, 4.1 A and the robot with a 5,200 mAh battery. Both claim up to 285 minutes in Dreame's vacuum-and-mop test, but actual time depends on settings and route. Their 3.8-inch stated height and 20 mm maximum threshold figure still need to be compared with the narrowest opening and most awkward transition in your house.
The flat pad routine is common to both: fill the robot's water tank, use water rather than detergent or disinfectant, remove the mop assembly when not mopping and wash the pad after a run. The manual says not to mop carpet. Choose a different kind of robot if you need the mop to lift automatically or a station to wash and dry it. If the Plus model meets the actual job, its less elaborate sensor layout is not a compromise in mop care—the two models ask for the same pad work.
Quick decision
- Prefer D20 Plus if a physical-bumper robot with a standard side brush fits your cleared-floor routine, and you want mapped vacuuming, manual flat-pad mopping and dust auto-emptying.
- Prefer D20 Pro Plus if the documented 3D line-laser sensor and extending side brush address real clutter or edge-cleaning needs. Do not expect these changes to automate pad care.
- Choose another class if 5-GHz-only Wi-Fi, automatic mop washing/drying, mop lifting, a numeric high-pile approval or a threshold claim above 20 mm is essential.
